West Central Neighborhood Coalition was established through the West Central Community Center in 1994 to serve as an information clearinghouse and community resource for neighborhoods in the west central service area.  There are presently over twenty agencies and organizations which participate in the coalition.  The Coalition has been responsible for the development of a number of projects including the West Central Neighborhood Spring and Winter Festivals, the community asset mapping project, the neighborhood economic development project, the Health Services Network as well as a number of special projects. 

West Central Neighborhood Education Team is a monthly neighborhood forum convened by the Community Center and Spokane Schools for the purpose of discussing issues, programs and projects related to quality education in area schools.  Schools represented are:  Holmes, Audubon, Glover, Garfield and North Central.  Meetings for both are held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 9:15 to 11 a.m. and the public is encouraged to attend. 

COPS West (509)625-3340 serves the West Central Neighborhood.  The COPS program is a partnership between the City of Spokane neighborhood residents, the Police Department and the Department of Corrections to help make their community a safer place to live.  COPS is staffed by neighborhood volunteers who provide community resource information and handle complaints.  Block Watch, a program of COPS is a communication program that focuses on crime prevention by educating and involving neighbors to reduce their risk of becoming victims. 

Northwest Alliance for Responsible Media (509)323-6656 www.nw-arm@gonzaga.edu Sponsored by WCCC, West Central Coalition, Gonzaga University, Spokane School District and area churches and businesses the purpose of which is to address awareness of media violence on children's behavior.

Office of Neighborhood Services (509)625-6730 www.spokaneneighborhoods.org works to foster a sense of community, coordinates with the City's service delivery systems, promotes and engages neighborhood residents in dialogue with the City of Spokane, evaluates neighborhood strengths and needs, and advocates for change in order to improve the quality of life for our citizens.

Spokane Neighborhood Economic Development Alliance (SNEDA) (509)444-7633 www.sneda.org  Neighborhood-based, nonprofit organization that assists businesses to improve their profitability and create jobs. This is done by connecting businesses to existing resources and providing financing to entrepreneurs who have been unable to access it through traditional means.

Neighborhood Councils Spokane receives funds for community development in qualifying neighborhoods.  The Neighborhood Council assists the City of Spokane and other agencies in determining priority needs for the neighborhood.  They review and recommend actions, policies and plans to the City of Spokane, Community Assembly, and other agencies, businesses and corporations on matters affecting their neighborhoods.  They facilitate the research and planning of community and economic projects as well as the allocations of Community Development funds designating social service and capital funds.  Lastly, they review items for inclusion in the City of Spokane budget and make recommendations on budget items for neighborhood improvements.  West Central Neighborhood Council 326-0887 (Andy), Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council 327-1127 (Dave), Northwest Neighborhood Council 326-4785 (Karen) and Riverside Neighborhood Council 455-5202 (Gary).

Spokane Parks and Recreation Department 625-6200 www.spokaneparks.org With the mission to enhance personal health and well-being, to improve the quality of life, and to further develop a sense of community with the citizens of Spokane, the Parks and Recreation Department promotes and provides leisure, recreational and cultural opportunities for all areas, all skill and age levels, offering many diverse programs.  

Kiwanis www.kiwanis.org is a community minded service organization dedicated to "serving the children of the world." Kiwanis organizations evaluate children's issues and community needs and respond by conducting service projects to address those needs to help develop leaders in future generations.

Our Place 326-7267 An Ecumenical effort of seven churches in the West Central area, Our Place offers a food bank, limited emergency financial assistance, local transportation and clothing bank.

Girl Scouts 747-8091 www.gsiec.org Provides an informal educational program that develops self-esteem and builds confidence and character in girls ages 5-17.

Boy Scouts 325-4562 www.northwestscouts.org A youth development program building good character in youth by  teaching citizenship, personal fitness and leadership and sponsoring education programs.

Camp Fire 747-6191 www.campfireinc.org Offers a program of informal education through self-reliance, service projects, and group experiences in response to individual, community and world needs.  For boys and girls 3rd through 12th grades.
