Spokane County Head Start/Early Head Start
Head Start/Early Head Start (EHS) (509) 533-4800 Head Start is a federally funded family involvement program for low-income families with young children. Head Start serves preschool children (ages 3-5) in classroom settings. Early Head Start serves infant/toddler children (ages 6 weeks to 3 years) in classroom settings. There is no charge for Head Start and/or EHS services. The sites that provide full-day services charge a fee for child care services. Ninety percent of enrolled families must be low-income, based on the federal poverty guidelines. Ten percent of enrolled children may be over income if they have diagnosed disabilities or other special needs. Preschool classrooms give priority to children who are age 4 years by August 31 of the school year. West Central Community Center offers one full-day preschool classroom, two full-day infant/toddler classrooms and one FREE half-day preschool program. DSHS reimbursement for child care accepted. All families are encouraged to participate in all areas of the program, which include: Parent involvement for parents and partners, mental health offering support and guidance, family health and safety, family support services, parent education, education to build skills and confidence, nutrition education, disabilities focus by providing individualized learning.
